The genesis of the contract signed with the Suez Canal Authority

On September 24, 2019, the EFINOR group signed a contract with the Suez Canal Authority for the sale of three pollution control vessels from the Sea Cleaner range.
These 3 boats – Multi Cleaner 128 – are true multipurpose vessels. They combine the functionality of a workboat with a pollution control vessel.
The patented double flow technology integrated into all vessels offers suction of floating pollution, both liquid (hydrocarbons) and solid.

This project, which will thus enable the Suez Canal to comply with environmental standards for water decontamination, is the culmination of more than three years of negotiations between the EFINOR teams and the teams of the Suez Canal authority, with the support from the Cairo economic service.
In this sense, Fabrice LEPOTIER, President of the group, had followed the visit of the President of the Republic to Egypt, in January 2019, in order to continue exchanges with the authorities of the Suez Canal. He was thus able to sign a letter of intent to open exclusive negotiations.

The main stages of construction

As part of the industrial organization of the EFINOR group, the 3 units were manufactured at its production site in Cherbourg.

  • Start of construction and duration: 11/2019 – 15 months
  • Tests: 02/2021
  • Commissioning: 03/2021
  • COVID impacts: 4 months of delays

The ships must leave Cherbourg-en-Cotentin in mid-April, by cargo ship, to reach their final home port.
